Wood Boiler Benefits
With the high cost of heating oil getting even higher, a wood boiler is looking more and more attractive as a home heating option. Recent estimates state that homeowners using oil burning boilers and furnaces will spend almost $2,000 this winter on heating oil alone. In contrast, wood boilers and other biomass heating options such as corn burning boilers can save as much as 70 percent on home heating costs.
Most wood burning boilers and furnaces manufactured today meet strict UL guidelines for safe indoor or outdoor operation. A wood boiler burns clean, without a lot of smoke and ash and don't release excess harmful emissions into the environment like fossil fuels. While all wood burning heating devices produce smoke when starting, a clean burning wood boiler or furnace will reach low emission levels within a few minutes.
Wood boilers and furnaces are sometimes referred to as "wood-fired hydronic heating systems," which simply means that they burn wood to heat water that in turn, generates heat that is used in radiant heating or forced air heating systems.
The benefits of using a wood boiler in heating your home:
- Protection from volatile fuel prices.
- Environmentally friendly; burning wood adds no net carbon to our environment. Even though wood burning boilers and furnaces release CO2, it is no more than if the trees would've been left in the forest and released CO2 in the decaying process. Burning oil however, releases gasses that would have remained buried deep inside the earth.
