Corn Burning Boilers

Rising oil prices and growing environmental awareness have led to an explosion in the interest in corn boiler and corn furnace technology. The corn burning boilers being made today are clean, efficient, and cost effective.

The corn used in the corn boiler is now available in most areas of the country and can be purchased by the bushel (56 lb. bags) or in bulk. Approximately 20 pounds of corn equals one gallon of fuel oil. In comparing costs (dollars per million BTUs), the cost of heating your home with a corn burning boiler is approximately $11/Million BTUs versus $21/Million BTUs when burning fuel oil.

Corn boilers, like some modern wood boilers, are also hydronic heating systems… meaning the heat is generated and carried throughout the house by water, instead of air. Radiant floor heat and baseboard heating elements are examples of this type of heating, that is now being installed in newer homes.

Can I use a corn boiler if I have a forced air system already installed?
Yes. Heat from the corn boiler can be converted to hot air through a heat exchanger, which is similar to the coil used in a car radiator. The air is then circulated through the existing ductwork. This is an economical option that will save money in the long run.
